The Aging Face Solution

We have to face it. It is occurring every day- Our faces are getting older. When rejuvenating the face, you have to consider the whole picture and not focus on a particular line or wrinkle.

In order to “undo” the effects of aging, we need to identify the processes that are occurring. We need to address those changes that make us look “old”. There are basically three processes that are occurring simultaneously.

First of all, we lose volume in our face, which is primarily fat. The nine fat compartments in our face can be depleted and re-distributed to other parts of our bodies. The loss of volume leads to circles under the eyes, gauntness, and an overall “tired” appearance.

Secondly, we lose the elasticity of our skin. Our skin sags as our production of collagen and elastin drop. This process of aging can be accelerated by extensive sun exposure and smoking.

Lastly, as we age, we lose bare. Our cheeks, jaws, and even our foreheads regress with time. As these structures recede, we lose the support that is hoisting our skin up and out. Without this support our skin appears loose and saggy.

Each of these changes can be addressed and compensated for with fillers. These will allow you to look like your youthful self. You do not need to dissect the skin from your face and pull it back behind your ears to reverse these changes. In addition to the expense and downtime of a facelift, patients frequently don’t look like themselves afterwards.

The use of fillers and Botox has been referred to as a “liquid facelift”. This somewhat inaccurate, though dramatic, moniker does not convey the rejuvenation and freshness that can be corrected with the various fillers. Volume loss from fat and bone are easily compensated for. Biologically active fillers, such as Sculptra and Radiesse can also restore collagen and bring firmness to lax skin. These two fillers are also long-lasting due to their stimulation of collagen production. All of the fillers used at The Skin Renewal Center are FDA-approved and have excellent safety profiles.

The most important determinant of outcome with fillers is Technique. Placement of the proper filler in the proper amount in the precise location at the right depth is critical to achieving optimal results. This comes with knowledge of anatomy and experience. You do not want to trust your face to an under trained, inexperienced non-professional. Since he has the training and expertise, Dr. McNamara is the only one who injects and counsels our patients regarding fillers.

In summary, fillers are an excellent choice to rejuvenate the face. They are a logical solution to re-capture the contours of youth.
