Rosacea

Rosacea (pronounced roh-ZAY-sha) is a common but little-known disorder of the facial skin that affects an estimated 14 million Americans. Because of its red-faced, acne-like effects on personal appearance, it can cause significant psychological, social and occupational problems if left untreated. While the cause of rosacea is unknown and there is no cure, today help is available that can control the signs and symptoms of this potentially life-disruptive disorder.

The signs and symptoms of rosacea vary substantially from one patient to another, and treatment must therefore be tailored for each individual case. The Skin Renewal Center offers treatment via Fotofacial ™ to diminish visible blood vessels and reduce extensive redness. If needed, Dr.McNamara can prescribe oral and/or topical antibiotics along with specific therapeutic skin care products to treat the bumps, pimples and redness often associated with the disorder. When appropriate, laser treatment or other surgical procedures may be used to remove visible blood vessels, reduce extensive redness or correct disfigurement of the nose.
