Tremendous Growth in the use of Non-Invasive Cosmetic Procedures

to Combat the Signs of Aging

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the overall number of non-surgical cosmetic procedures has increased 726% since the collection of the statistics first began in 1997. The most frequently performed procedure is Botox injections.

Highlights of the ASAPS, Statistics on Cosmetic Surgery show that there were nearly 11.5 million surgical and nonsurgical procedures performed in the United States in 2005.  Non-surgical procedures made up a whopping 81% of the total.  More and more, we see the value of non-invasive procedures, with little or no downtime as an alternative to plastic surgery.  Men now make up almost 10% of those taking advantage of nonsurgical cosmetic procedures.  It is an exciting time in the fight against the signs of aging!

The interesting stats from the 2005 data show the Top Five Nonsurgical Cosmetic Procedures are as follows:

1. Botox® injections (up 16 percent from 2004).

2. Laser hair removal (up 11 percent from 2004).

3. Injectible Wrinkle Fillers (also known as “derma-fillers” and “hylauronic acid fillers” … up 35 percent from 2004 … see below for exciting news on the subject!).

4. Microdermabrasion(See special offer below!)

5. Chemical peels.

In addition to several lines of carefully chosen skincare products, all of the above services are available at The Skin Renewal Center, provided by passionate professionals with years of experience.  Expertise is readily available to help you determine if particular product, procedure or a combination will provide the results you are looking for.

According to a recent article in Time Magazine, wrinkle fillers are an exciting trend but the author cautions, “the doctor you choose may be as important as the substance he or she uses.  Any material is only as good as the person who's injecting it.”  Similar warnings ensue regarding the administration of Botox®.  Something to consider as one can’t help but notice that everyone from the family pediatrician to the gynecologist, not to mention the many “medical spas” popping up everywhere all begin to offer nonsurgical cosmetic procedures.

CONSIDERING INJECTIBLE WRINKLE FILLERS

As we age, our faces begin to show the effects of gravity, sun exposure and years of facial muscle movement, such as smiling, chewing and squinting. The underlying tissues that keep our skin looking youthful and plumped up begin to break down, often leaving laugh lines, smile lines, crow's feet or facial creases over the areas where this muscle movement occurs.

You may have already enjoyed the results of Botox™ and are perhaps ready to take the next step in the fight against wrinkles, for those areas in which Botox is not the answer. One of the most exciting offerings to come along in the fight against wrinkles is with the use of injectable wrinkle fillers.  This is a particular area of interest for Dr. McNamara who has worked in this realm since 2000.  In that time, exciting product development has continued and only the best of the best are available at The Skin Renewal Center.  Dramatic, long-lasting results can be achieved using products such as Sculptra™ and Juvederm™ and now with the latest (and only non-absorbable/long-lasting) filler, Artefill®. To put it simply, these products are smooth gel fillers Dr. McNamara eases under the skin to instantly smooth out wrinkles and/or folds such as those “parenthesis-type” smile lines along the side of the mouth as well as nasalabial folds or other areas deemed appropriate.  The result is a smooth, natural look and feel. Juvederm and Artefill are gels, while Sculptra achieves similar results by stimulating the body's own collagen production.

The Skin Renewal Center even offers special supplements that can be taken prior to the wrinkle filling procedure in order to enhance the effects and decrease any chances of bruising, etc.  The good news is that there is no down time and with many treatments the cosmetic improvement is immediate. Side effects, if they were to occur, tend to be minor and transient.  Dr. McNamara will screen you to minimize any problems.  We can help you determine which wrinkle filler product is best suited for your needs.
