Microdermabrasion
We have years of experience conducting medical-quality microdermabrasion treatments. Microdermabrasion refreshes the skin by gently removing the dead cells from the surface. The process enhances the smoothness of the skin and diminishes irregularities to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and even acne scars. Your skin will look and feel smooth and refreshed.
The process can be done in conjunction with one of our customized facials and other treatments.
Peels
The Nurture Peel is a unique blend of mild acids and other cosmeceutical ingredients to help achieve improvements in skin texture and tone, a lessening of superficial lines and an overall healthier, more youthful look and feel - with minimal "down time". The renewal process has been clinically proven to help pigmentation problems (such as age spots and sun damage) to fade while stimulating collagen production in the cells beneath. It is gentle enough to use every 3 weeks for maximum benefits (3 treatments is ideal) and is a perfect, healthy start to your customized skincare regimen. Even with one peel, you will notice a renewed appearance.
This can also be tailored for arms, hands and chest to help with sun damage. We offer an excellent sunscreen to prevent further damage.
Glycolic Acid (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) Peels
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) are a group of naturally occurring acids which are derived from certain plants and fruits. The most commonly used form of AHA is glycolic acid, which comes from the sugar cane. AHAs work by stimulating new growth of skin and collagen by decreasing the bond that holds dead skin cells on the surface. This allows dead cells to be removed gradually, leaving behind a layer of smoother and softer skin. AHAs also help to unclog pores and thus decreasing the tendency for acne to develop!
During an AHA peel, a solution of glycolic acid is applied to the skin for a brief period of time, and then washed away. This solution causes several of the top skin layers to dry and peel off gradually over a period of several days. When the older layers have peeled off, they expose a new layer of undamaged skin!
Glycolic Acid Peels can be used to help:
Waxing
Advantages of Waxing
Waxing has many advantages over shaving and other hair removal methods. Hair removed by waxing takes much longer to grow than hair removed by shaving, and waxing also weakens the hair’s root, making the hair on the treated area to grow thinner and thinner over time (in contrast with shaving and some other hair removal treatments, which make hair grow stronger).
Waxing is the lowest cost and most effective method for temporary hair removal because it removes hair with its roots, not just at the skin surface as with shaving.
What are the expected results?
Hair re-growth after shaving is immediate and the stubble is coarse and rough. With waxing, the new hair takes weeks to come back, and is softer, lighter in color, and much sparser. Not only are the hairs removed but waxing exfoliates the top layer of dead skin cells, resulting in a softer, smoother, more translucent skin. Re-growth of the hair usually takes 3 to 8 weeks. Leg waxing leaves the skin silky smooth for 4 to 6 weeks. Waxing also works well on the stomach, brows, and upper lip.
Each waxing permanently destroys some hair roots and so space between the hairs increases. Less hair returns and the returning hair becomes finer. Eventually, much hair is permanently gone.
Removing facial hair does not make it grow back darker. However, some women experience "shading" and the skin where hair is removed becomes darker. This is usually due to exposing the skin to the sun within 48 hours after hair removal. For best results, use a sun block on newly treated areas.
Before your visit
Waxing should not be done on the face of a person using Retin-A, Renova, Differin, or Accutane, as these substances weaken the skin and the skin may tear when the wax strip is pulled off.
Hair should be at least 1/8" long before waxing. If shorter, wait a few days longer (best results are obtained letting the hair grow for 2-3 weeks).
Pain-Reducing Gels
Since waxing stings the skin, you may wish to inquire about pain-reducing gels (usually 4% lidocaine) that are specially formulated to penetrate intact skin. The pain-reducing gels are applied 30-60 minutes before waxing.
The special lidocaine provides an effective numbing action during the waxing procedure. The gel is formulated so that it does not interfere with the waxing procedure or reduce the adhesion of the wax to the hair. The lidocaine gels should not be applied inside the eyes and contact with the eyes should be strongly avoided
IPL Fotofacial (Photofacial)
Every year, millions of patients visit the dermatologist office complaining of skin problems including fine lines and wrinkles, persistent red complexion, sun spots, acne scars, large pores and other blemishes. Intense pulsed light is a non-ablative technique to treat these conditions and is also called photorejuvenation.
How does IPL (Fotofacial) work?
The IPL hand piece delivers high intensity pulses of broadband light that is different from the narrow band light of lasers. IPL, which stands for intensed pulsed light, is non-ablative meaning that is does not damage the surface of the skin. The intense light is delivered to the deeper parts of the skin (dermis) and leaves the superficial aspect of the skin (epidermis) untouched. There are different versions of IPL available on the market that target different structures in the skin. The PhotoDerm VL targets vascular lesions such as spider veins and vascular birthmarks. The PhotoDerm PL targets pigmented lesions such as melasma and age spots. The PhotoDerm HR and Epilight target hair. The thermal effect of IPL also causes production of new collagen, leading to improvement in wrinkles.
What are IPL’s advantages?
As discussed above, IPL should not damage the skin surface, unlike dermabrasion and laser resurfacing. Therefore, there is virtually no recovery time.” Treatments take approximately 30-45 minutes. Patients can apply makeup before leaving the office and return to work the same day. There is also minimal pain with IPL, unlike laser or radiofrequency resurfacing which both require topical anesthetic.
What are IPL’s disadvantages?
Given that there is little damage to the skin surface, several treatments may be required to see the desired effect. For best results, approximately 4-6 treatments, spaced 3 weeks apart, are needed. Side effects can include transient redness, increased or decreased pigment in the treated area, and temporary crusting. Minimizing sun exposure and the use of a sunblock after treatment is recommended to help avoid these effects.
